September 19, 2025 Publication of 5G Development Status (As at the End of FY 2024)

　Based on reports from mobile carriers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled the status of 5G development as at the end of FY 2024 ended March 31, 2025.

1. Overview

　The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) set the following goals in its Digital Infrastructure Development Plan for 2030, which was formulated in June 2025.

• Nationwide 5G population coverage rate: 99% by the end of FY 2030
• 5G population coverage rate by prefecture: 99% by the end of FY 2030

　Based on reports from mobile carriers (NTT Docomo, Inc., KDDI Corporation/Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company, SoftBank Corp., and Rakuten Mobile, Inc.), the MIC has compiled the 5G development status as at the end of FY 2024 ended March 31, 2025.

　The status of 5G development as at the end of FY 2024 is seen below:

• Nationwide 5G population coverage rate: 98.4%
• 5G population coverage rate by prefecture : 88.4% to 99.9%
