- Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council -

　On July 2, 2026, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council, chaired by ENDO Nobuhiro, Special Advisor to NEC Corporation, regarding the "Technical Conditions for Frequency Expansion, etc., of 6 GHz Band Wireless LAN Systems" and "Technical Conditions for Advanced Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) of 5 GHz Band Wireless LAN Systems," which are part of "Technical Conditions for Advanced Utilization of Wireless LAN Systems," which are included in "Technical Conditions Necessary for the Advancement of Low-Power Wireless Systems (Information and Communications Council Consultation No. 2009, dated September 30, 2002)."

1　Background

　While the 6 GHz band is being introduced and considered internationally as a key frequency band for next-generation wireless LAN technology, more advanced operational coordination is required to ensure appropriate frequency sharing with existing wireless systems.
As a mechanism enabling this advanced operational coordination, the Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) system is already in operation in the United States and Canada, and other countries are also advancing discussions aimed at enhancing wireless LAN technology, including the introduction of AFC systems.

　Given this situation, Japan has also been examining the technical conditions related to the frequency expansion of 6 GHz band wireless LANs, while taking into account the technical requirements of AFC systems and assessing the potential for frequency sharing with existing wireless systems.

　In addition, with regard to 5 GHz Band Wireless LAN Systems, studies have been conducted on enhancing Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) to ensure compatibility with international wireless LAN standards.

　Following deliberations by the ICT Subcommittee of the Information and Communications Council, MIC received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council on July 2, 2026, regarding the "Technical Conditions for Frequency Expansion, etc., of 6 GHz Band Wireless LAN Systems" and "Technical Conditions for Advanced Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) of 5 GHz Band Wireless LAN Systems."

2　 Future Plans

　MIC will make the institutional development of relevant regulations based on the partial report.
