August 3, 2026 Establishment of the Position of Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications and Appointment to the Position
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has established the position of Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications as a Senior Advisor to MIC and appointed Hideyuki Tokuda, Professor Emeritus of Keio University, to the position.

The position of Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications was established as a Senior Advisor to MIC for the purpose of providing advice on the planning and formulation of MIC's science and technology-related policies, disseminating information at international conferences and other occasions, and supporting a wide range of information-gathering activities in Japan and abroad and the building of networks necessary for such activities.
Mr. Tokuda has held key positions in academia and has also served as Chair of the Technical Subcommittee of MIC's Information and Communications Council and as President of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT). As he possesses diverse knowledge and experience, as well as an extensive network of contacts, and is well versed in MIC's initiatives in the field of information and communications, he was appointed Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications.
