1 Overview
Currently, in Japan, services utilizing Globalstar satellites—such as satellite mobile phone services, location-based services, and services using devices that integrate satellite communication functions into the same housing as mobile phones—are in use.
Globalstar, Inc. plans to begin operations of the third-generation C-3 mobile satellite system, and services are also expected to be provided in Japan in the future. MIC therefore solicited opinions from Friday, August 7, 2026, to Thursday, September 10, 2026, on the Draft Directive Partially Amending the Examination Standards Related to the Radio Act to enable the use of terminals compatible with the new satellite system in Japan.
