 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications(MIC)hosted the Thematic Event at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9): "Digital Impact in Africa -Importance and Strategies for Expanding Telecommunications Infrastructure” at PACIFICO Yokohama.

2. The main topics

 To support the development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Africa, the MIC organized a thematic event that brought together stakeholders involved in Africa.
 Following the opening remarks at the event by State Minister ADACHI,
 Mr. Lacina Koné, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Smart Africa, International Organizations Promoting ICT Development in Africa, Japanese ICT company representatives operating in Africa, and Mr. Rogy, Regional Director of The World Bank, a development cooperation partner, took to the stage and engaged in discussions on the following topics:
 ・The importance of digital services in Africa
 ・Methods for developing telecommunications infrastructure tailored to local needs
 ・Approaches to international cooperation for the sustainable development of the ICT sector
 Finally, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Furukawa delivered the closing remarks, bringing the event to a successful conclusion.

3. Future plans

 Building on the knowledge and networks obtained through this event, we will further promote cooperation in the ICT sector in Africa.
