近年「FRS」「GMRS」「UHF-CB」などの外国規格の無線機が、通信販売やインターネットオークションなどで流通しています。これらの無線機が使用する電波は、日本国内の防災行政用無線や放送業務用無線などの重要な無線に使われており、電波妨害を与えるおそれがあるため国内では使用できません。
本人の認識に関わらず、日本国内で電波が発射可能な状態で所持していた場合、不法無線局を開設したものとして処罰の対象となります。無線機の購入の際には、日本の技術基準に適合していることを証明する、技術基準適合証明マーク「技適マーク」が付されているものか、免許を必要としない無線機（例 ： 特定小電力無線局）などをご利用ください。

無線局の開設をしようとする者は、総務大臣の免許を受けなければならない。ただし次の各号に掲げる無線局については、この限りではない。（以下省略）

次の各号のいずれかに該当する者は、1年以下の懲役又は100万円以下の罰金に処する。
第1号 第4条の規定による免許又は第27条の18第1項の規定による登録がないのに、無線局を開設し、又は運用した者
外国からの観光客が、外国規格無線機（FRS/GMRS/UHF-CB）を持ち込むおそれがあることから、特に外国人が訪れている観光地、イベント会場などで、外国規格無線機（FRS/GMRS）の国内使用禁止に関する広報を実施しています。

Recently, foreign‐standard radios are sold at some shops, by mail‐order and on the Internet.
In addition, there have been an increasing number of cases in which foreign‐standard radios are being brought into Japan.
Some of this equipment does not conform to the technical regulations under Japanese radio law and its use violates the law.
These could cause harmful interference to transmissions of other radio stations.
Therefore, you must be careful when purchasing or using foreign‐standard radio equipment.
If a person sets up and operates an unlawful radio station, that person violates the Radio Law and is subject to fines of up to 1,000,000 yen or penalties of 1 year imprisonment.
Do Not Buy, Sell or Use Illegal Radio equipment!
Family radio service(FRS) cannot be used in Japan.
General mobile radio service(GMRS) cannot be licensed in Japan thus cannot be used.
＊Radios that use the 462 and 467 MHz bands may interfere with important wireless communications such as disaster prevention administrative radio systems or broadcasting business radios.
The use of Australian UHF-CB and New Zealand PRS is prohibited, because the frequencies are used for television broadcasting in Japan. The use of such devices causes a range of problems related to television reception.
If a person opens and operates an unlawful radio station, that person violates the Radio Law and is subject to fines of up to one million yen or penalties of one year imprisonment.
